Job Description
The Black Horse Pike Regional School District has an opening for a Long Term Substitute Science Teacher in the CARE Program at Camden County College, from March 2026 through the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
Reports To Dean of Students, CARE Program
Supervises Pupils, and when assigned, student teachers and classroom aides
Job Goal To provide an approved education program and establish a classroom environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help pupils develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.
Qualifications
Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and Subject Area Endorsement or eligibility; Certification in Biology preferred, other Certifications in the Sciences considered.
Highly qualified teacher in area of instruction
Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
Working knowledge of computers desired
Performance Responsibilities
Works to achieve New Jersey Student Learning Standards and District educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning and skills development in an alternative education setting. Teaches pupils through an approved course of study using Board‑adopted curricula, textbooks/digital curriculum, and other appropriate teaching materials.
Develops weekly course‑specific lesson agendas for students and enriches the curriculum with supplemental instructional materials, providing opportunities for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Facilitates weekly or daily individual lesson action plans for students to promote successful work completion (e.g., time management, self‑pacing, etc.).
Meet weekly with students (1:1 or small group) for mini skill‑building lessons as well as check‑ins on assignments, goal progress, grades, and overall student accountability; prepare and deliver direct instruction of the skills needed for academic success (including organization, communication, study skills, and personal skills and attributes that promote self‑awareness, self‑management, character development, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision‑making and career awareness, exploration, and preparation).
Teach students to set S.M.A.R.T. goals in order to fulfill their academic, behavioral, and/or social‑emotional requirements more effectively and efficiently; work with administrators to monitor and adjust goals.
Assess pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
Maintain records of pupil’s educational progress in class record books and/or Board‑approved forms and summarize these marks for reporting purposes.
Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems while promoting restorative academic, behavioral, and/or social‑emotional opportunities.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
Allocate program time effectively.
Collaborate with administrators to communicate with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to discuss pupil progress.
Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in‑service education and other professional growth activities.
Participate in school‑level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups.
Make effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy, and supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities as assigned.
Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned.
