General Position Description
The Pastor of Children’s Ministry is responsible for the pastoring of children and their families through the implementation of a ministry strategy that inspires wonder about God and builds a foundation of faith that will last a lifetime. We want our kids to know that they are seen, heard, and loved by Jesus and by us.
About Bridgeway Church Bridgeway Church is a non‑denominational church in Wesley Chapel, Florida. We host three weekend services: Saturday at 5:00 PM, and Sunday at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Our average weekend attendance is 1,500 to 1,700, with about 175–200 children.
Responsibilities
Oversee Kids’ Ministries (Ages Infant‑5th Grade) and develop a team of equipped volunteers to disciple children
Aid in the development and growth of Bridgeway Children’s Ministry, including the inclusion of children with developmental disabilities
Work to equip parents for the discipleship of their children
Create service schedules for classrooms
Plan and oversee various special events for kids (and parents)
Assist with curriculum selection, considering age‑appropriate and theologically aligned material (we currently use curriculum from Orange)
Manage the Children’s Ministry budget
Prepare and deliver messages to the Elementary Class, while staffing other age‑specific rooms
Before and after each service, run the set‑up process for Children’s Ministry, ensure all volunteers are in place, and oversee the morning check‑in process
Oversight with team: Sunday team schedule, ensuring adequate volunteers are staffed in all classrooms
Recruit volunteers for Children’s Ministry
Ensure coverage with volunteers and paid childcare workers for Kids’ Ministry activities and events requiring childcare
Train team members, equipping them with classroom management skills and other teaching tools and processes
Care for and encourage Children’s Ministry volunteers, teachers, and leaders, check‑in on their spiritual health, and ensure no one is overextending themselves
Ensure compliance with child protection policies, training and background checks
Keep families and volunteers up to date on policy requirements
Qualifications
A follower of Jesus who serves as an example to children in the church and demonstrates an understanding of how the gospel transforms the lives of children and ministry volunteers
Creative event planner and solid communicator with children and their parents
A self‑starter who can work with the church staff and take ownership of ministry areas within the children’s ministry
Experience in leading a team of volunteers
Willing to become a member of Bridgeway Church and aligns with our beliefs and theology
Competent with technology, including Planning Center, iPad and Bluetooth printers, and Google Workspace
Caring and compassionate disposition, possessing conflict management skills
Flexibility and calm under pressure in changing and/or emergency situations
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree and/or some Biblical/Theological training in Christian education
Experience overseeing a budget
1–3 years experience in children’s ministry or classroom teaching
Expectations Throughout the Week
Regular in‑office hours
Staff meeting and service planning
Weekend involvement (each week: Saturday 5 pm service and two Sunday services)
Availability for special events and holiday services
Reports To Senior Pastor and Family Pastor
Status Full time, Salaried
