High Temperature Materials Researcher – Associate Researcher Nasa Glenn Research Center, Brook Park, Ohio

HX5 is currently seeking a High Temperature Materials Researcher to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities This position will contribute to new and on‑going research for alloy development in support of NASA Glenn Research Center’s High Temperature and Smart Alloy Branch. The successful candidate will support research and development in the areas of material property characterization, processing development and additive manufacturing. Will also assist in developing material characterization test plans, evaluation of testing hardware, and development of laboratory facilities as necessary as well as contribute to peer‑reviewed papers, technical reports, and proposals.

Required Skills

Experience with hands‑on operation of mechanical testing equipment.

Ability to contribute to new and ongoing research in development of high‑temperature metals and shape memory alloys.

Expertise in research experience in high temperature metallic alloys and shape memory alloys.

Expertise with servo‑hydraulic, electromechanical and/or creep testing platforms.

Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, experience managing laboratory personnel, writing test program reports, and research publications.

Desired Skills

Experience in materials characterization to determine mechanical, chemical, thermal and/or application specific properties of advanced materials with an emphasis on mechanical testing.

Experience in supporting alloy design activities for high performance metals including nickel‑base superalloys, refractory alloys, and shape memory alloys.

Detail oriented with experience in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Experience with contact and/or non‑contact extensometers for high temperature testing.

Experience with hands‑on operation of additive manufacturing machines.

Experience with MATLAB or similar programming.

Experience in contributing to peer‑reviewed papers, technical reports, and proposals for internal and external release.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with 0 to 5 years of experience.

Other Position Requirements

Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is a requirement for this position.

Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
