Job Title Certified Catholic School Teacher (Exempt)

Job Classifications

Certified Teacher: Holds current Arizona Standard Professional Teaching Certificate. Classified as “Certified Teacher”; payroll classification is “Teacher on Contract”. Must maintain certification.

Certified Teacher – Pathway: Holds Alternative Teacher Certificate. Classified as “Certified Teacher – Pathway”; payroll classification is “Teacher on Contract”. Must maintain certification.

Department/Location Our Mother of Sorrows School, Tucson, AZ

Primary Function Under the direction of the school principal, supports the Diocese of Tucson in evangelizing, catechizing, and educating youth in a Catholic School environment. Acts as a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching academically and behaviorally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Live Gospel values; be an active member of a faith community and model teaching of Jesus.

Help build the School’s faith community by participating in and helping plan religious and service activities.

Lead and participate in classroom prayer daily.

Plan lessons to implement academic goals and Catholic religious curriculum.

Demonstrate teaching competence; communicate effectively with students; organize classroom learning and materials.

Teach in an online learning environment as needed, using Google Classroom or other platforms.

Use effective evaluation methods tied to curriculum objectives.

Establish a consistent disciplinary approach promoting self‑direction and positive self‑image.

Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.

Cooperate with School and Diocesan administration; attend faculty trainings and meetings.

Enforce school policies and regulations professionally.

Maintain confidentiality; follow dress code.

Abide by principal's rules and perform other duties as assigned.

Physical and Mental Requirements Coordination, manual dexterity, normal vision, and ability to lift as required in an office environment. Activities: walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, keyboarding.

Basic Qualifications

Strong commitment to Catholic mission and lay leadership. Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.

Excellent written, oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.

Human relations, interpersonal skills; self‑starter, organized, team player.

Available for evening and weekend work; reliable transportation.

Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Proficiency with computer technology: word processing, Excel, etc.; maintain confidentiality.

Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies.

Complete criminal history and background check.

Professional bearing and neat appearance.

Education and Experience

Completed bachelor’s degree or higher.

Certified by the State of Arizona as a Teacher with renewal per state law.

Level I Diocesan Ministry Certification, renewed every three years.
