Job Overview
Position placed in the Facility Maintenance Team, Business Operations Division.
Responsibilities
Ensure doors are locked and other security measures are followed.
Clean and service assigned areas daily, including rooms, halls, and stairways.
Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax, buff floors, shampoo carpets as needed.
Clean rest rooms and replenish supplies daily or more frequently.
Empty and clean waste receptacles, dispose trash properly.
Wash walls, windows, shelves, mirrors, and horizontal surfaces.
Picks up trash from grounds and parking areas and performs other outside maintenance as assigned.
Dust, wash and polish furniture and woodwork.
Replenish supplies of paper, soap, and cleaning materials and solutions; report needed supplies, equipment or repairs to supervisor.
Cleans and maintains power equipment and other cleaning equipment.
Remove stains from a variety of surfaces using appropriate chemicals and cleaning solutions.
Deliver waste materials for recycling when assigned; move furniture; perform other related duties as necessary.
Physical Demands Position requires physically strenuous activities including lifting heavy objects, moving furniture, operating heavy equipment, stooping, bending, vacuuming, and staying on feet during the eight‑hour shift.
Work Schedule Monday through Friday 12:30 pm–9:30 pm.
Minimum Education & Experience Education and/or experience in housekeeping work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade.
Preferred Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in custodial maintenance of public or commercial buildings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
Ability to operate and clean custodial power equipment effectively and safely.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to follow schedules for periodic cleaning and manage time effectively.
Ability to observe and report needs for maintenance, repairs and supplies.
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Knowledge of specifications and requirements for cleaning commercial or public buildings.
Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Conditions of Employment
Applicant will operate motor vehicles for Cumberland County and must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
Applicant will be tested for drug use. Refusal or a positive test may result in withdrawal of the offer.
Law enforcement background check is required and may include fingerprinting.
Position will require assistance in emergency and/or disaster situations.
Must adhere to the Department of Social Services dress code policy, including guidelines for tattoos and body piercings.
