In the absence of a supervisor, the Lead Technician will lead the daily activities of the assigned SPD team or department, including assigning resources, corrective action, and assistance with performance reviews. You will develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, innovation, and empathy, and make a difference in patients’ lives every day while advancing your career.
A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. with rotational weekend and holiday requirements. This position is located in building MMSPD at Main Campus.
This position is eligible for a sign‑on bonus of up to $5,000*.
Perform case pull functions efficiently and accurately.
Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
Assemble, wrap and label instruments according to provided lists following documented procedures.
Perform QA testing on instrumentation and equipment.
Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
Provide technical expertise for all customers, internal and external.
Troubleshoot all processing equipment problems, including washers, sonics, endo processors, cart washers, sterilizers and the instrument tracking system.
Seek ways to eliminate errors, reduce turnaround time, maintain workflow and improve customer service.
Follow department standards when processing and handling equipment, instrumentation and chemicals.
Monitor and control supplies and equipment and resolve any related issues.
Perform record-keeping functions within the electronic tracking system, including processing, sterilization and quality assurance documentation.
Observe personal protective equipment standards in decontamination process.
Use the department's instrument and productivity tracking program to maintain accurate records regarding sterilization and set assembly count-sheets.
Direct the activities of the SPD staff.
Provide input on performance reviews and progressive disciplinary actions for assigned caregivers.
Review shift reports to ensure adequate resources are available.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Sterile Processing Certification (e.g., CRCST/CSPDT or CFER/CER)
Two years as a sterile processing, central service and/or surgical technologist
Certificate of Healthcare Leadership must be attained within six months of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Five years of experience as a sterile processing, central service and/or surgical technologist
Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and has the ability to push, pull and navigate supply carts weighing >75 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range: Minimum hourly: $21.50 Maximum hourly: $30.00 The pay range reflected on this job posting is the anticipated range for new hires. Actual compensation will be determined after considering factors such as experience, skill set and education. The pay range does not include shift differentials, overtime or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.
