The purpose of this position is to provide basic skills to individuals within the service area seeking to complete a high school diploma. This position is responsible to plan, implement and deliver Adult Basic Education, and GED/HiSET instruction to adults and minors (ages 16-17). This position may also provide English and computer classes to non‑English speakers.
Essential Duties
Prepares and delivers instruction for assigned classes; manages the adult classroom.
Maintains current and accurate records of student performance and attendance.
Prepares individual student lesson plans.
Participates in professional development activities.
Additional Duties
Submits reports/paperwork as required in accordance with guidelines/procedures.
Refers students who meet qualifications for GED or HiSET testing.
Communicates availability with students in‑person, via email, or telephone.
Assists with recruitment and retention of students.
Other duties as needed.
Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general office procedures and protocols.
Skilled in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Skilled in communication, verbally and in writing.
Skilled in planning and creating lesson plans.
Skilled in the organization of class modules and assessments.
Ability to input student data and records accurately.
Ability to deliver instruction in a way that stimulates intellectual curiosity and encourages independent and creative thinking.
Ability to maintain and encourage a clean, orderly, and safe teaching environment.
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to the diversity of student backgrounds, skills, and learning styles.
Ability to maintain a thorough and current understanding of instructional areas and disciplines.
Physical Demands This job requires continuous talking or hearing; frequent standing, walking, and sitting; occasional reaching with hands and arms, gripping or feeling with hands; typing/repetitive movement, climbing or balancing, occasionally and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds.
Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to indoor environment and classroom setting.
