The Job The San Bernardino County Library System is hiring a Library Technician for the Needles Branch Library. The role is set in a highly-interactive, fast-paced customer service environment. Responsibilities include:

Implement system-wide programs in the areas of youth, adult, literacy, volunteer, and technology.

Provide reference services and circulation services.

Perform backroom operations and essential library duties.

Shelving library materials, checking books in and out, issuing and renewing library cards, and collecting fines/fees using the computerized circulation system.

Position requirements: location‑specific to Needles, California (approximately 215 miles east of San Bernardino). Availability to work exclusively at Needles Branch is required; failure to commit will result in removal from the eligible list.

NEEDLES BRANCH Needles lies on the western banks of the Colorado River in the Mohave Valley subregion of the Mojave Desert, near the borders of Arizona and Nevada. The county operates 32 branches; this recruitment is for the Needles Branch only.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The San Bernardino County Library System serves a diverse population across an extensive geographic area with 32 branch libraries. The library provides access to information, technology, programs, and services, including computers, Wi‑Fi, book lending, and free programs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Work Schedule: Part‑time, up to 38 hours per two‑week pay period. Weekend and evening work required. Part‑time employees receive pro‑rated vacation, holiday, and sick leave based on scheduled hours. Retirement and health benefits are not provided.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent reaching, bending, walking, and standing.

Continuous pushing and pulling materials.

Lifting up to 25 pounds continuously, and lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally.

PRE‑EMPLOYMENT PROCESS

Background investigation including fingerprinting.

Medical exam.

Tuberculosis screening.
