Library Technician The San Bernardino County Library System is recruiting Library Technicians who are prepared to work in a highly‑interactive and fast‑paced customer‑service environment.

Library Technicians have responsibility for implementing system‑wide programs in the areas of youth, adult, literacy, volunteer, and/or technology. They provide reference services and circulation services, backroom operations, and essential library duties such as shelving library materials, keeping materials in order, checking books in/out, issuing/renewing library cards, and collecting fines and fees on a computerized circulation system.

About the Department The San Bernardino County Library System is a dynamic network of 32 branch libraries that serve a diverse population over a vast geographic area. The system strives to provide equal access to information, technology, programs, and services for all county residents. The library offers educational and recreational learning through the use of computers, Wi‑Fi, book lending, and other free programs.

Conditions of Employment

Work Schedule:

Most positions are part‑time and scheduled for up to 38 hours per two‑week pay period; weekend and evening work is required.

Work Location:

Employees work various schedules and at various branch locations depending on the need of the system.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent reaching and bending; continuous walking and standing; continuous pushing and pulling; constant lifting of materials up to 25 pounds; and frequent lifting up to 75 pounds.

Pre‑Employment Process:

Background investigation including fingerprinting, medical exam, and TB screening. Candidates must also present a valid work permit if under 18 and a current student.

Sponsorship:

The county cannot consider candidates who require visa sponsorship at this time or in the future.

Minimum age:

Applicants must be at least 16 years old. Under age 18, a valid work permit must be obtained prior to hire.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The library values employees who enjoy working in a high‑demand, fast‑paced customer‑service environment. Experience using computers and cash handling skills is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent oral communication skills and the ability to clearly convey information to patrons.

Applicants may test once per three‑month period. Eligible candidates will remain on the eligible list for three (3) months. Details of the online assessment process will be emailed once the recruitment has closed. All communications regarding the selection process will be via email. The ability to take pre‑employment tests online is a privilege. Applicants may be required to take parallel versions of these tests in a proctored setting to confirm identity.
