The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and respectful transportation for individuals living in a residential group home. This role supports daily activities, medical appointments, community outings, and other approved destinations while promoting dignity, independence, and person-centered care.

Training & development

Key Responsibilities

Safely transport individuals to and from medical appointments, day programs, employment sites, recreational activities, and community outings

Ensure all passengers follow safety procedures, including seat belt use and mobility device securement

Assist individuals with entering and exiting the vehicle as needed

Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and trip documentation

Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly

Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and in good working condition

Follow all agency policies, state regulations, and HIPAA confidentiality requirements

Communicate effectively with residential staff regarding schedules, changes, and individual needs

Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical situations during transport following training and protocols

Represent the agency professionally in the community

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check

Basic knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed

Physical ability to assist passengers and manage mobility equipment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or in human services

CPR, First Aid, and defensive driving certification (or willingness to obtain)

Familiarity with Medicaid-funded residential or waiver services
