About the Program and Case Aide Position Our Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC) overseen by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) ensures the well‑being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0‑17) who cross the U.S. southern border without an adult. Instead of traditional congregate care, we place unaccompanied children in foster homes while diligently searching for and assessing potential sponsors in the U.S. During their stay with us, we provide medical care, case management, engaging life‑skills classes, and essential mental‑health services.
Case Aides play a vital role in meeting the critical needs of our children by providing safe and reliable transportation to community appointments. Success in this role requires flexibility and an understanding that day‑to‑day activities may change. The individual must be open and available to assist in any way needed to support the children in the program.
How You Get to Use Your Skills as a Case Aide…
Provide transportation of the children in our program to medical and legal appointments, hearings, and other social services
Respectfully communicate with children, foster parents, and colleagues; effectively report the behavior of children during transportation to foster parents and other team members
Assist with intake and discharge related transportation, including travel from state‑to‑state for reunification with a sponsor
Provide language interpretation to clients for appointments out in the community, as needed
Provide supervision of youth in the classroom, as needed
Assist with the intake process and case documentation
Ensure professional boundaries are established and maintained at all times on the job, especially when supervising youth
Assist team during case emergencies
Pick up or deliver possessions
Required Experience for a Case Aide
High school diploma/GED required; associate degree preferred
1‑year experience working with families and children required
Experience working in a busy human services office–strongly preferred
Strong skills in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Bi‑lingual – English‑Haitian Creole or English/Spanish required
Valid NYS Driver’s License required
Willingness and ability to drive a car or van within the 5 boroughs of New York City, and across the nation
Physical Requirements of a Case Aide
Sit in and/or drive a vehicle for several hours
Word processing: responding to emails, composing letters, completing computerized documentation; familiarity with Excel and electronic medical record systems
Completing paperwork – copying, scanning, and faxing documents
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Schedule for a Case Aide
Non‑Exempt
Regular hours: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday‑Friday
Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends
