SOME (So Others Might Eat) Provides SOME provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools you need to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation The hourly rate for this position is $17.95 and is commensurate with experience.

Kitchen Aide The Kitchen Aide supports the daily operations of the senior nutrition program by assisting the Dining Site Manager in preparing, setting up, and serving the noon-day lunch to program participants. This role also provides support for light kitchen maintenance, cleanup, and occasional assistance with program activities that promote social engagement and wellness for older adults.

This position is located at Karin House, 1395 Aspen St. NW – Washington, DC 20012.

Schedule Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm; occasionally 9:00 am for meetings (20 hours per week)

Required High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, 1+ years customer service experience

Required License/Certification CPR/First-Aid, Food Handler Certification

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of food handling, temperature, and sanitation standards required.

Ability to follow confidentiality protocols.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Good communication and customer service skills are required.

Good customer service and people skills are required. Ability to be flexible and a team player. Demonstrated cultural competence and responsiveness. Sincere interest in the mission and vision of the organization.

Expected Contributions

Organize supplies, and clean equipment required for serving meals.

Assist with set up and service of lunch meal.

Greet the program participants as they arrive.

Assist with clean up after lunch and activities as needed. Assist with implementation of program objectives.

Maintains strict confidentiality in all matters, including but not limited to, clients, personnel, budgets, contracts, Board of Directors and all other non-public business information.

Attend and assist Wellness Activities Assistant or assigned staff with while on outings for senior trips.

Assist with serving food during catered events hosted onsite.

Reports any incidents to Senior Services Dining Site Coordinator.

Reports to Wellness Manager, Karin House

Position Designation This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings offsite.
