Bus Driver (Public Transit Operator) The Public Transit Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting passengers along designated routes, ensuring timely arrivals and departures. You will perform routine vehicle inspections, adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations, and provide excellent customer service by assisting passengers as needed. Additionally, you will maintain accurate records of daily activities, including ridership counts and vehicle maintenance reports, and respond to any on-the-road issues or emergencies in accordance with company procedures. You will work to promote accessibility and ensure that all individuals, including those with disabilities, are provided with a safe and reliable transit experience.

Part‑Time Opportunities (Northfield/Faribault) We are seeking part‑time bus drivers for the Northfield/Faribault area.

Start at

$22.70/hour

if you already have a Class C CDL and Passenger Endorsement (PE); otherwise, start at

$21.70/hour .

You will primarily drive in the Red Wing area but may occasionally be assigned to another city or community.

Required Qualifications

Pass a required background study and a pre‑employment DOT drug test.

Possess a current, valid driver’s license for at least three (3) years in good standing with no more than one moving violation in the past 12 months.

Hold current, valid personal automobile insurance.

Demonstrate adherence to all state and highway safety rules and regulations.

Be able to safely operate large transit vehicles, associated equipment, mobility lift, and security devices efficiently.

Read, write, and speak English to communicate effectively with passengers, dispatchers, and in emergency situations.

Use tablets and other basic transit software.

Pass driver training on topics including Passenger Assistance, Maltreatment Awareness, Defensive Driving, First Aid/CPR, and Child Passenger Safety.

Be willing to adhere to CFR Part 40 regulations, including drug and alcohol testing throughout employment.

Be capable of obtaining a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) and a Medical Examiners Certificate within 90 days of the start date.

Functional Requirements

Ability to sit for long periods while driving and use hands to handle controls and reach with hands and arms.

Operate large transit vehicles safely in all types of weather and environmental conditions.

Adhere to ADA compliance and reasonable accommodation requirements and physically assist passengers personally or with mobility devices or property as needed.

Pass a Fitness for Duty exam paid for by the agency.

Potentially frequent lifting of up to 75 lbs; occasional bending, squatting, and reaching.
