Job Description The APRN/PA will act in accordance with Florida Statutes for the Nurse Practitioners Act and provide care and management of critically ill infants requiring hospitalization in a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The role may cover night and/or day shifts, including weekend coverage.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is based at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in Tampa, FL, a 1,018‑bed teaching hospital affiliated with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. It is a private not‑for‑profit facility, level one trauma center and level 3 NICU. The 82‑bed Jennifer Leigh Muma NICU is a designated Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center.

Responsibilities

Ongoing evaluation and management of neonates and infants in the NICU.

Participation in multidisciplinary rounds and coordination of care with ancillary staff and families.

Attendance at high‑risk deliveries and immediate stabilization of critically ill neonates under the supervision of the attending neonatologist.

Documentation of all orders, procedures, and progress notes in the patient’s medical record.

Perform procedures necessary for neonatal care, including endotracheal intubation, umbilical line placement, PICC, lumbar punctures, and peripheral arterial lines.

Supervision of pediatric residents and participation in teaching APP students, pediatric residents, and medical students.

Participation in QA projects, educational sessions for clinical staff, and scheduled organizational sessions.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chair.

Preferred: Experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in family medicine or pediatrics.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Nursing with ARNP training or applicable PA program; Florida license.

BLS/AED certification, maintained; ACLS or PALS preferable.

2–5 years of experience evaluating pediatric patients; at least 2 years with neonates preferred.

1 year nursing experience in a physician’s office or ambulatory health care facility is preferred.

Board certification or eligibility required.

Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.
