Plumber Apprentice
Job Description
This position will assist with performing basic operation, maintenance, repair and installation of plumbing pipe systems and fixtures, work on domestic, sewage and heating/cooling pipes, equipment and systems, and other GI, cast iron and PVC plumbing related components.
This position is not telework eligible.
Duties and Tasks Assist in maintaining plumbing systems, correct problems, and perform new pipe and fixture installations in compliance with applicable codes. Assist in providing the most economical and safest plumbing service to campus. Complete work orders with priorities approved by immediate supervisor in close coordination campus senior plumber. Be available to assist with emergency work on weekends and holidays, if required. Assist with performing basic maintenance work, troubleshoot and repair of all plumbing systems in close coordination with campus senior plumber. Support emergency operations.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Ability to work with little or no supervision and make sound decisions independently.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of all aspects of heating and plumbing operations.
Basic to intermediate skill in the use of plumbing tools including hand tools, pipe threading machines, heating and soldering torches, drills, roto-hammers, and sewer rodding machines and other related tools/equipment.
Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Microsoft Office Suites, and maintenance work order system.
Ability to communicate proficiently in English language.
Knowledge of basic math to perform day-to-day tasks.
Ability to lift 25 lbs on a regular basis.
Ability to function in close quarters, or cramped environment.
Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
Ability to follow safety guidelines at all times.
Ability to be detail oriented.
Possession of excellent mechanical, critical thinking and communication skills.
Ability to show physical endurance, while performing lifting tasks.
Minimum Work Experience Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record. Participation in Plumbing Trades Program. Experience and/or training in preventive maintenance.
Additional Considerations Successfully completed plumbing apprenticeship program.
