Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. The Special Education Teacher for Emotional Support develops and provides specialized instruction to students with emotional support (ES) needs, establishes a supportive learning environment, evaluates and assesses student progress relative to instructional objectives, provides guidance to support staff, and coordinates delivery of special education services in each student’s IEP. Salary

Bachelor’s with certification: $58,987 Master’s with initial certification: $60,047 Master’s with permanent/professional certification: $63,360 Job Duties

Develop and implement Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students that include present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and specially designed instruction and related services. Implement research‑based SDI that meets the goals and objectives of the student’s IEP. Assess student progress, using both formative and summative evaluation, to determine the need for adjustments to the student’s IEP. Actively engage students in learning, using a variety of instructional techniques, teaching relevant content, and providing specific and timely feedback. Collaborate with and provide consultation to other educational professionals and community service providers regarding the needs of the students. Provide consultation to classroom teachers and other support staff regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, positive behavior support plans, and other instructional interventions to meet students’ needs. Employ and implement a classroom structure and routine to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect. Incorporate a function‑based approach to address student behavior. Work collaboratively with and provide consultation to family members to promote consistency in addressing student behavior. Effectively communicate student progress to parents/guardians and respond to parental concerns engaging the family in the instructional process. Adhere to professional responsibilities relative to certification. Understand team goals and own role within the team. Support team decisions and cooperate with others within and outside the team. Complete responsibilities as assigned under supervision, seek assistance as needed, take accountability for outcomes of own work and ensure timely completion of assignments. Utilize crisis physical intervention techniques appropriate to the setting and the degree of threat to the safety of the student and others. Maintain compliance with all training/learning requirements and initiate professional growth opportunities. Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education. Master’s degree in Special Education preferred. NY Special Education Teacher certification required. Experience: Previous Special Education Teacher experience required, or student teaching experience considered.
