Bachelor's with Certificate: $58,987
Master's with Initial Certificate: $60,047
Master's with Permanent/Professional Certificate: $63,360
Job Duties
Develops and implements Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students, including present levels of performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and specially designed instruction (SDI) and related services.
Implements SDI that is research‑based and intended to meet the goals and objectives of the student’s IEP.
Assesses student progress using formative and summative evaluation to determine the need for adjustments to the student’s IEP.
Actively engages students in learning, using a variety of instructional techniques, teaching relevant content, and providing specific and timely feedback.
Collaborates with and provides consultation to other educational professionals and community service providers regarding the students’ needs.
Provides consultation to classroom teachers and other support staff regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, positive behavior support plans, and other instructional interventions.
Employs and implements a classroom structure and routine to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect.
Incorporates a function‑based approach to address student behavior.
Works collaboratively with and provides consultation to family members to promote consistency in addressing student behavior.
Effectively communicates student progress to parents/guardians and responds to parental concerns, engaging the family in the instructional process.
Adheres to professional responsibilities relative to certification.
Understands team goals and own role within the team; supports team decisions and cooperates with others within and outside the team.
Completes responsibilities as assigned under supervision, seeking assistance as needed; takes accountability for outcomes of own work and ensures timely completion of assignments.
Utilizes crisis physical intervention techniques appropriate to the setting and the degree of threat to the safety of the student and others.
Maintains compliance with all training and learning requirements and takes initiative in seeking opportunities for professional growth.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education; Master’s degree in Special Education preferred.
Certification:
NY Special Education Teacher certification required.
Experience:
Previous Special Education Teacher experience required; student teaching experience will also be considered.
