Special Education Technician III

The nature of this position is to work with the teacher, content specialist, and/or supervisor in planning and implementing instructional activities for students. The Educational Technician III may perform short-term instruction and management activities with indirect professional supervision. The Educational Technician III may instruct and/or supervise small groups of students in settings removed from the classroom.
Responsibilities include:
Work directly with special needs students in small groups on academic and functional skills under the instructional direction and supervision of the special education teacher.
Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills, based on an understanding of individual students, and their needs, interests, and abilities.
Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
Assist with the supervision of students during non-instructional time, and with non-instructional duties.
Participate in in-service training, as assigned.
Skills:
Communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to follow instructional plans and adapt to student needs
Knowledge of special education practices and behavioral supports
Patience, empathy, and a commitment to equity and inclusion
Proper Maine DOE certification and background check required for all positions.
