Driver License Technician Trainee (Centennial)

The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) is dedicated to being a trusted partner to Coloradans.

What We Do The Driver License section provides Colorado credentials throughout the state, including driver licenses, instruction permits, commercial driver licenses, and ID cards.
A Typical Day In this trainee role you will learn to ensure compliance with Colorado Revised Statutes, federal laws, and department policies in issuing documents to qualified applicants.
Once trained and certified, promotion to a Technician II position may be possible.
Primary Duties
Interact with customers as the primary point of contact.
Communicate with customers about needs, eligibility, and compliance.
Assess applicant behavior, source documents, and exercise first‑line decision‑making regarding acceptability of documents, proof of identity, suspected fraud, medical requirements, etc.
Process computer‑generated driver’s licenses and ID documents and hearing requests.
Administer written, oral, and automated testing; grade examinations for all license classes.
Qualify applicants for licenses and ID cards by determining needs and eligibility.
Assess authenticity of documentation by comparing applicant statements with available data.
Collect and account for money received for all documents issued; maintain cash drawer, count cash, and balance receipts.
May be required to travel and work between multiple Driver License Offices.
The successful candidate must sit and stand for long periods throughout the day.
Residency Requirement The posting is open only to residents of Colorado at the time of application, with a Colorado address and a state‑issued driver’s license.
Minimum Qualifications
Option 1: 1 year of experience in a customer‑service role.
Option 2: College or university coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, Management, Information Technology, or a related field (substitutes for year‑for‑year experience).

Prior experience in accounting, counting cash, and balancing receipts.
Driver License Systems Fundamentals (DLF Certification) Newly hired or transferred trainees are designated "in training" for the first year.
They receive DLF training, regular evaluations, and must complete DLF certification within one year.
Failure to achieve certification may result in removal from the position.
Conditions of Employment
Position is one of public trust; must act with honesty, integrity, and public confidence.
Pre‑employment tax‑record review; must file Colorado Individual Income Tax returns.
Successful background investigation and reference check required.
Drivers of state‑owned vehicles must maintain a safe driving record.
Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be reviewed for positions involving assigned or required fleet vehicles.
Minimum Qualification Screening Human Resources will review work‑experience sections only up to the closing date.
