Primary Work Shift : Day Rotational

Regular Scheduled Weekly Hours : 40

Compensation Range : $25.27 - $37.90 per hour, depending on experience

Tends to follow Infection Control policies and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.

Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra‑operatively.

Assists the surgeon when needed: gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure; anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.

Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.

Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.

Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards; identifies conflicts or problems; cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.

Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.

Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.

Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.

Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon.

Handles and identifies specimens per policy.

Expedites the effective and efficient turn‑over of the OR between cases.

Takes rotating call duty.

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

Previous Operating Room experience

Previous Surgical Technologist experience

License/Certification

Minimum Required:

Meets the NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law; OR Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces; OR Completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credential

CPR Certification within 3 months of hire
