Lead Custodian
Campus: La Porte High School
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Supervise the custodial operations at La Porte High School; establish and follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Actively engages with high school staff as a working supervisor and department trainer for new custodial employees and substitutes.
Job Qualifications:
GED/High School Diploma (preferred)
Ability to read, write, and understand written and verbal instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Valid Texas Driver’s license; insurable by district’s insurance carrier
Bilingual (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and supplies and have ability to instruct others in this responsibility
Must be able to perform routing preventative maintenance on cleaning equipment and have ability to train others
Knowledge of basic techniques of minor repairs and building maintenance
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies and disinfectants according to SDS standards
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Serve as the Lead district trainer for new custodial employees entering LPISD.
Experience:
Three years custodial experience in maintaining a large school plant facility at the secondary level or higher.
Two years supervisory experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assist in the assignment, scheduling and training of the campus custodial staff as assigned.
Monitor the time records of all custodial staff on the campus.
Evaluate the performance of the assigned custodial staff on a scheduled basis.
Schedule and conduct meetings with custodians for purposes of training, retraining, and leadership.
Tour the campus on a daily basis and confer with the Custodial Foreman and/or High School Principal or Assistant Principals, regarding work schedules and procedures.
Perform inspections that are established as an integral part of the operational program.
Direct and control established schedules and procedures for the cleanliness and maintenance of all areas in the facility.
Exhibit professionalism and courtesy to fellow workers, other department members, teachers, students, and parents.
Direct and control the priorities of the custodial staff work load on the campus.
Maintain the inventory of supplies and equipment and orders supplies from district warehouse as needed.

Promote the personal safety, safety procedures and safe working environment for all employees.
Supervise the summer and holiday cleaning programs and projects on the campus.
Respond to emergency situations that are observed or requested.
Maintain equipment assigned to campus and request repairs when needed.
Initiate work orders for needed campus maintenance items.
Supervises the physical security of the assigned building(s) in regards to locking and unlocking the facility.
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized campus work environment.
Lead/assist in district setups for events held at La Porte High School and the Administration Building.
Perform all other duties assigned by the Custodial Foremen and Director of Maintenance and Facilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor the work of and assign work duties to building custodians.
MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Tools/Equipment Used: Twenty-inch (20”) rotos, automatic floor machines, carpet extractors, commercial vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, 24-and32- ounce wet mops, large wringers and other necessary equipment and tools, products and supplies.
Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, and overhead reaching
Lifting: Heavy lifting required up to forty-five (45) pounds unassisted frequently
Environment: Work is both outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders required; may work alone
Mental Demands: Reading, writing, and understanding written and verbal instructions
Other Information The district contributes
$400/monthly
to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance, which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.

Salary based on experience.
