Beautician/Barber
Position located in the U. S. Naval Academy's Non‑Appropriated Fund Instrumentality (NAFI), Naval Academy Business Services Division (NABSD), Annapolis, Maryland. The incumbent works on a rotation basis in the Barber and Beauty Shop of NABSD, preparing, conditioning, and cutting hair of male and female midshipmen and other authorized patrons.
Responsibilities
Shampoo, style, shape, wave, straighten, cut and curl patrons’ hair while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Cut and shape hair into various styles suitable for the patron and perform scalp treatments as requested.
Check skin, scalp, and hair for disorders such as sores, abrasions or diseases that may require medical attention.
Keep working areas clean and maintain tools and equipment in a sterilized, sanitary condition; prepare needed tools and accessories for patrons.
Operate an automatic washer/dryer.
Maintain a minimum pace of one haircut every 15 minutes for men and one every 45 minutes for women.
Stand, sit, bend, reach, and lift light items as required.
Requirements
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance – requires 18 years of age.
Male candidates born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Verification of employment eligibility in the United States is required.
Probationary period: flexible employees are employed based on the needs of the business.
Must be able to understand and communicate in English.
Must complete an Occupational Health screening for this position.
Qualifications
Completed an approved Cosmetology, Beautician, or Barber school and maintain a valid license in Maryland, or have two years of experience with ability to obtain a valid license.
Ability to provide beautician/barber services on all types/textures of hair including military hairstyles.
Experience using electric clippers and trimmers.
Experience performing hair care treatments; preference for protective hairstyles (braiding) or basic updos.
Additional Information Applications received after noon on the closing date will not be considered. The selectee will be required to participate in direct deposit as specified.
