Position Overview The Special Education Teacher provides high-quality instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with federal and state laws, including IDEA and Connecticut State Board of Education regulations. The teacher works collaboratively with general education staff, related service providers, and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that support the academic, social, and behavioral growth of students.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities across multiple grade levels (K–12).
Design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Modify curriculum, classroom assignments, and assessments to meet the unique learning needs of students.
Conduct formal and informal assessments to track student progress and instruction.
Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral support strategies.
Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, assessments, and IEP documentation.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, needs, and services.
Participate in IEP meetings, school-wide professional development, and staff collaboration.
Support transition planning for students as they progress between grade levels or to post-secondary settings.
Attend relevant professional development to stay current with best practices in special education.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field.
Valid Connecticut teaching certification in Special Education.
Experience with IEP development and implementation.
Strong classroom management, collaboration, and communication skills.
