Job Summary

The Plumber is responsible for the repair, installation, and maintenance of plumbing systems throughout the hospital and off-site facilities. This includes potable water systems, sanitary drainage, medical gas piping, and associated infrastructure. The role supports patient care and facility operations by ensuring all plumbing systems are functional, compliant, and safely maintained in accordance with healthcare regulations.

Essential Functions

Perform preventive maintenance and service on chillers, pumps, fire suppression systems, vacuum systems, and medical gas piping

Install and repair plumbing systems including fresh water supply, waste water, and sanitary piping

Service bathroom fixtures, toilets, urinals, and related hardware

Troubleshoot and maintain circulating pumps, chemical feed systems, and hot water converters

Utilize computer-based monitoring and energy management systems

Inspect, clean, and maintain backflow preventers and grease trap interceptors

Repair or replace pumps and valves

Maintain HVAC system components including filter changes and coil cleaning

Drain and repair components of compressed air systems

Provide general facilities maintenance as required or during low-demand periods

Participate in on-call rotation and respond to plumbing emergencies

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

Thorough understanding of plumbing systems, tools, materials, and applicable codes and regulations

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plumbing schematics, and maintenance manuals

Strong analytical and mechanical troubleshooting skills

Familiarity with energy management systems and mobile technology

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary facilities team

Physical capacity to stand, walk, climb, kneel, push/pull, and lift up to 100 lbs.

Willingness to work in diverse environments including confined spaces and exposure to weather, chemicals, and loud noise

Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant healthcare environment aligned with organizational values and patient care priorities

Strong communication skills and professional conduct in patient care settings

Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or GED required

Trade school or vocational training in plumbing is preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Valid Driver's License required

Plumbing licensure preferred or ability to obtain relevant certification

Experience

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in commercial or institutional plumbing work

Familiarity with hospital systems such as fire suppression, vacuum systems, and medical gases is desirable

Basic proficiency with computers, iPhones, and iPads is preferred
