Engineering Technician I – III
Department: State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Construction Location: 7 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH
Pay Range Base Pay: $15.93/hr – $26.41/hr (salary range varies by level)

Summary Engineers technicians perform semi‑professional engineering audit procedures on project records and documents related to construction projects. The role advances from Technician I to Technician III with increasing responsibilities in analysis, verification, and supervision.
Qualifications
Engineering Technician I
Education: High school diploma or equivalency OR Associate’s degree with major in engineering, landscape, architecture, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, agronomy, geology, soil science or earth science (no experience required)
Experience: Two years as an Engineering Aide (one year at level equivalent to Engineering Aide II) OR no experience required if possessing the Associate’s degree.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet agency standards.
Trainee Option: Candidates with 1+ years of relevant education and experience after high school may be hired in trainee status.
Engineering Technician II
Education: Same options as Technician I.
Experience: Three years as an Engineering Aide or Technician, with at least one year at level equivalent to Engineering Technician I.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.
Trainee Option: Not applicable.
Engineering Technician III
Education: Associate’s degree with major in engineering, landscape architecture, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, agronomy, geology, soil science or earth science. One additional year of formal education may substitute for one year of required experience.
Experience: Three years as an Engineering Aide or Technician, two years at level equivalent to Engineering Technician II. One additional year of experience may substitute for one year of formal education.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.
Trainee Option: Not applicable.
Responsibilities
Engineering Technician I
Calculate volumes using engineering methods to determine material quantities.
Verify measurements and computations supplied by Contract Administrators and field support staff.
Tally daily material invoices and determine correct totals for final payments.
Utilize BlueBeam and MS Excel to review and revise project records during audit procedures.
Resolve documentation inconsistencies with higher‑level technicians or engineers.
Engineering Technician II
Verify measurements and computations supplied by Contract Administrators and field support staff.
Interpret and verify earthwork and embankment areas and volumes using BlueBeam and MS Excel.
Develop or monitor final as‑built plans.
Supervise and train lower‑level technicians in engineering methods and audit procedures.
Attend meetings to resolve questions regarding final contract quantities.
Assist with office duties such as answering phones, updating databases, and assisting walk‑ins.
Engineering Technician III
Verify and analyze computations performed by Contract Administrators and field support staff.
Calculate and analyze final earthwork volumes using engineering methods, BlueBeam, and MS Excel.
Compare project Record Book entries with design quantities using iPD Web to eliminate errors and double payments.
Analyze field notebooks for accurate measurements and calculations to ensure compliance with specifications.
Develop or monitor final as‑built plans.
Supervise and train lower‑level technicians in engineering methods, audit procedures, and iPD Web.
Attend meetings to resolve questions regarding final contract quantities.
Assist with office duties such as answering phones, updating databases, and assisting walk‑ins.
