Job Description Job Summary: This position is responsible for the development of the customer relations between Taylor Construction Equipment and the end users, by providing prompt and efficient service and aftermarket support. The Field Service Mechanic reports directly to the Service Supervisor and is part of the service team. The mechanic is responsible for maintaining strong customer relationships, performing inspections, training operators, delivering repairs and replacements, and ensuring accurate record‑keeping. Experience in the construction equipment industry, welding, hydraulics, electronics, and diesel engine repair is required.
Consults with Service Supervisor to plan an effective work and travel schedule prioritizing customer service and part availability.
Diagnoses malfunctions, repairs and/or replaces worn and defective parts, installs new assemblies, and adjusts controls to restore machines to operating condition.
Provides tools and parts and arranges for facilities to perform repair work (usually on customer premises).
Inspects, operates, and tests machines upon initial delivery, at specified intervals, and after repairs to ensure proper functioning.
Reports detailed information to the Service Supervisor, including customer name, machine description, nature of malfunction, time spent, mileage, and parts used to support accurate billing.
Continuously develops technical skills through company-sponsored vocational schools, annual training meetings, and technical literature.
Maintains a neat appearance and keeps the service truck clean, polished, and orderly, promoting a professional company image.
Serves as a troubleshooter on recurring or unusual problems, collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, and other service personnel.
Trains new or less experienced servicemen and supervises teamwork on large repair jobs.
Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical ability to stoop, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record; will drive company vehicle under corporate insurance.
DOT certification required.
Availability to stay overnight at out‑of‑town locations when needed.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other technical material.
Education and Experience
Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.
At least three years on the job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics; schooling may substitute part of experience.
Required to pass the tacker test and encouraged to practice welding skills to pass the AWSD14 Welding Test for future promotions.
