Solar Mechanical Technician
Pay Range: $20–$30/hr Reports To: Solar Project Manager Travel: Up to 75% (company-paid lodging, transportation, and per diem)
Position Summary The Solar Mechanical Technician performs racking assembly, module installation, grounding and mechanical balance-of-system installation on commercial and industrial solar projects (rooftop and ground-mount). The role supports the Mechanical Lead or Foreman, ensuring proper installation, torqueing, layout, and quality on solar projects.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble and install racking systems, mounting hardware, rails, modules, and grounding components.
Follow mechanical layout plans; assist with pre-construction layout and staging.
Perform torque sequences, wire-management installation, module placement, and grounding.
Conduct daily quality checks on mechanical work, ensuring adherence to specs and safety standards.
Maintain material inventories, staging, and daily work logs.
Use tools and torque equipment safely; assist with tool maintenance.
Participate in site cleanup, array labeling, and support close-out tasks (punch list, commissioning support).
Required / Preferred Qualifications
1–3 years solar racking / module installation experience (or general construction with mechanical aptitude)
Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and work at roof or elevated heights (use of ladders, lifts, or scaffolding)
Basic ability to read plans / layout drawings
Strong attention to detail and reliability
Preferred:
OSHA 10
Experience with commercial rooftop/ground-mount solar projects
First Aid/ CPR
Fall Protection Certification
