Job Description:
A CMM Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to ensure precision in measuring manufactured parts and components.
Job Responsibilities
Operate CMM Equipment: Set up and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines to perform inspections and measurements of various components, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
Programming and Calibration: Develop and document measurement programs, including the selection of appropriate probes and fixtures. Perform routine maintenance and calibration checks on CMM equipment.
Quality Control: Verify that components meet quality standards by conducting inspections and documenting results. Report any discrepancies or non‑conformances to the quality supervisor.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot quality issues and implement corrective actions. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and process efficiency.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of measurements and inspection results, and compile data for capability studies.
Read & interpret blueprints, specifications & internal documents.
Perform dimensional inspection of manufactured components & assemblies which include first part buy‑off and final lot inspection per inspection documentation or traveler.
Approve finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement checks.
Use and complete AS9102 documents.
Use inspection equipment such as gauges/tooling.
Calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Skills & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
1–5 years of experience operating CMMs or in a similar inspection role, depending on the level of the position.
Proficiency in CMM programming and use of relevant software (e.g., PC‑DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, CMM Manager).
Understanding and ability to define and communicate non‑conformances to shop personnel, vendors, and customers.
Ability to interpret complex drawings & specs for machined parts from casting, forgings, sheet metal, and bar stock.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Mathematical skills such as the ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to perform basic concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Self‑starter requiring minimal supervision.
Effective teamwork, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Physical Demands
May require use of hands & arms with repetitive motion & reach.
May require manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment.
Work performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
May require the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
May require use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
May require bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
May require the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 30–75 pounds (partner assistance may be required for 50–75 lbs).
May require activities involving moving machinery, marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
Work Environment The plant is a machining environment, collaborating with quality control teams and other technicians to ensure the highest precision in parts and products. The role may involve working in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment where attention to detail is crucial. Safety glasses are always required in production areas. OSHA regulations are followed.
Salary:
$23 – $30 per hour
