Job Description Summary The Lead Wind Hub Technician position requires local travel within the hub. This critical role maintains optimal function and output at the wind site by working daily on turbine operations, safety, quality control, and warranty repairs. The Lead Technician partners with and communicates with the Site/Hub Manager to execute contract requirements and timelines, ensuring alignment with GE excellence.
Essential Responsibilities
Work with site/hub leadership to execute contractual obligations, including electrical and mechanical equipment work on GE wind turbines.
Support all areas of site operations with minimal supervision, including daily scheduling, planning, and customer service.
Apply extensive understanding of variable pitch & variable speed turbines and converter parts.
Read, understand, and explain schematics, drawings, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
Adhere to all Environmental Health and Safety processes and regulations.
Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch & variable speed turbines.
Conduct diagnostic analysis and generate resolution plans.
Document all work via computer-based service reporting procedures.
Collaborate with GE’s remote operations center as needed.
Mentor peers and contribute to overall site leadership.
Qualifications / Requirements
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of 4 years of wind troubleshooting experience, with at least 1 year in an EHS, SQC, or Lead role.
Minimum of 5 years of wind troubleshooting experience (alternative).
Eligibility Requirements
Passing a Technical Knowledge Assessment.
Basic computer skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.
Can handle repetitive weight up to 50 lbs. and climb towers up to 300 feet.
Meet manufacturer weight limits (max 300 lbs including gear).
Ability to work in varied industrial environments.
Ability to prioritize work per contract obligations.
Initiative and ability to work without direct supervision.
Flexibility for rotating shifts and on‑call duties.
Occasional overnight stays may be required.
Desired Characteristics
Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical, electrical, or electronics field.
Technical certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronic field.
Experience working with diverse personnel.
Wind turbine experience.
Electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulic experience.
Experience with hydraulic power tools.
Experience with heavy equipment and knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
