Job Description
Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements
Perform cleanup duties
Perform material handling and storage duties
Identify, use, and care of common hand and power tools
Use and care of craft specific tools and equipment
Knowledge and application of craft related mathematics
Knowledge and use of safety standards and best safety practices relevant to rigging
Inspect rigging equipment and hardware
Knowledge and application of common hitches, emergency stop signal, basic crane hand signals, knot tying (bowline & clove hitch), and use of rigging equipment relevant to craft specific tasks
Understand various types and functions of gears, the components and characteristics of gearbox setups, problems with gears and gearboxes, and gearbox overhaul, including checks and measurements of end play, backlash, tooth contact, and shaft run out
Understand operation, components, routine maintenance, and overhaul of centrifugal and reciprocating compressors
Understand types and functions, installation, lubrication, maintenance, causes of failure, and replacement of sliding surface and roller contact bearings
Understand parts, function, maintenance, and troubleshooting of typical motor operators, including how gears work and the parts, operation, replacement and adjustment of rotary drum limit switches and torque switches
Understand types, basic operation, troubleshooting, and overhaul of reciprocating and rotary positive displacement pumps and single and multistage centrifugal pumps
Understand pipe sizing and materials of construction, pipe storage and handling, characteristics of pipe joints and fittings, and how to measure pipe length, cut, and thread pipe
Inspect gears and gear units for lubrication problems and bearing failure
Install and remove gears
Check and adjust end play, backlash, shaft run out, and tooth contact in gearboxes
Disassemble, check, and reassemble centrifugal and reciprocating compressors
Remove, clean, inspect, lubricate, and install various types of bearings
Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble positive displacement and centrifugal pumps
Maintain and troubleshoot problems on motor driven valve operators
Perform basic maintenance tasks and assist senior mechanics on complex tasks
Perform maintenance repairs on building/facility systems, structures, equipment and furniture
Complete preventive maintenance (PMs) and client or proactive work orders
Assist senior mechanics when working on complex tasks or major repairs and modifications
Perform general housekeeping duties in the work areas and shop
Comply with all Fluor Corporation safety requirements and programs
Mental Demands Understand and carry out oral instructions; Read and carry out written instructions to perform work tasks; Work at varying heights; Recognize, avoid, and report safety hazards; Assemble and disassemble objects; Operate equipment and power tools.
Physical Demands See hazards, safety warnings, and barriers; Bend knees for lifting and routine work tasks; Stoop for work positioning and lifting to perform work tasks; Lift maximum 50 lbs without assistance; Ability to comprehend, and respond to audible/visual instructions, alarms and warnings; Climb/balance on ladders, scaffolding, and structures for work tasks; Kneel for work positioning and work task performance; Reach above shoulders and away from body to perform work tasks; Demonstrate manual dexterity to perform work tasks.
Working Conditions Work in extreme heat or cold; Work where noise level is above 85 decibels; Work in wet/humid environment; Work in cramped quarters; Work in environment of fluctuating ventilation; Work inside and outside.
