Legal Assistant / entry-level Paralegal . This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit, highly respected firm and play a critical role in supporting sophisticated appellate and litigation matters.
The
Paralegal / Legal Assistant
provides direct case-related, administrative, and filing support to attorneys. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong formatting skills, and the ability to manage tight and overlapping deadlines. Prior litigation-related administrative experience is required. Familiarity with Michigan’s court structure and e-filing systems is essential. While appellate experience is preferred, it is not required.
The
Paralegal / Legal Assistant
reports directly to the Office Manager and supports all attorneys of the firm.
Key Responsibilities of the Paralegal / Legal Assistant: 1. Calendar & Deadline Management
Maintain and update the firm’s Google calendar and internal deadline-tracking systems
Monitor upcoming deadlines and proactively follow up with attorneys to ensure all filings are timely and accurate
2. Case Support
Format and proofread appellate briefs and filings in compliance with Michigan Court Rules
Prepare Tables of Contents and Indexes of Authorities
Compile, organize, finalize, and electronically bookmark appendices and exhibits
Format and proofread circuit court filings, including:
Motions for summary disposition
Motions in limine
Jury instructions
Post-trial motions and orders
Organize exhibits and supporting materials
Coordinate and complete court filings via e-filing systems and paper filing
Track all submitted and filed copies of court documents
Assist with trial and hearing preparation
Draft initial versions of orders, attorney appearances, notices of hearing, praecipes, and other legal documents for attorney review
3. Transcript Ordering & Management
Order, track, and manage transcripts
Coordinate with court reporters and monitor delivery timelines
Maintain organized transcript files for use in trial and appellate proceedings
4. File Management & Administrative Support
Download, organize, and maintain digital and physical case files in compliance with firm protocols
Prepare binders and case materials for attorneys
Provide general administrative and document-management support as needed
Qualifications
Prior litigation-related administrative or paralegal experience (required)
Familiarity with Michigan courts and e-filing systems (required)
Strong legal formatting and proofreading skills
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time. Infrequent lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
