in its search for an experienced
Litigation Legal Assistant
to join its growing Michigan team. This role may be based in either the
Detroit or Southfield office
and supports a busy litigation practice in a collaborative, professional environment.
Position Overview The Legal Assistant will provide proactive administrative and litigation support to attorneys and paralegals, ensuring high-quality client service and adherence to firm standards. This is an addition to staff driven by continued team growth.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Litigation Legal Assistant
Provide outstanding client service, including greeting guests, responding to requests, scheduling meetings, and coordinating telephone conferences
Deliver proactive administrative support to Litigation attorneys and paralegals; assist other practice areas as needed
Prepare, draft, and review correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, and filings in accordance with firm standards
Electronically file documents with courts and assist with drafting litigation filings
Proactively monitor deadlines and maintain calendars
Maintain strict confidentiality of all client matters and firm information
Interact professionally with court personnel, attorneys, and staff to obtain and provide information and resolve issues
Process payment and reimbursement requests
Create, maintain, and retire files in accordance with firm information governance policies
Manage client contacts, emails, print documents, and incoming/outgoing mail
Transcribe dictation and clearly communicate in a concise, professional manner
Other duties, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of the Litigation Legal Assistant
Proficiency with
Microsoft Office
required
Experience with
Kofax/Nuance, Intapp, LMS+, iManage, BigHand , or comparable systems strongly preferred
Working knowledge of the litigation process and general court operations
Ability to read and identify pleadings and litigation‑related documents
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and respond with a sense of urgency
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse individuals
Ability to apply common‑sense reasoning to solve problems and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to perform basic arithmetic functions, including calculating dates
Ability to work at a high level of competency and occasionally work more than 40 hours per week
Education and Experience
3+ years of litigation legal assistant experience
in a law firm or legal setting required
Education beyond high school or legal‑related coursework preferred
Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret complex litigation documents
Department Overview
Team includes
25 partners
(primarily Southfield‑based, with some splitting time between offices),
14 associates ,
3 paralegals , and
3 legal assistants
This role is being added to support a
growing litigation team
Work Schedule & Flexibility
Hybrid schedule:
Remote
1 day per week after 90 days
May expand to
2 remote days per week
depending on workload and manager discretion
Hybrid flexibility is determined by department, not location
Base salary:
$46,000 – $69,000 , depending on experience
