Engineering Technician & Fabricator
Job Title: Machinist - Fabricator
Job Type: Full‑Time Days
Reports To: Engineering
This role seeks a creative and skilled Engineering Technician and Fabricator with a strong technical background and excellent mechanical ability. We look for a “hands‑on” builder and independent thinker who can brainstorm, design, develop, and fabricate machinery from concept to reality. The position requires a keen understanding of assembly principles, fabrication techniques, mechanics, and the ability to follow technical drawings to produce/assemble complex components and equipment. This role is essential in ensuring the design and production of custom, high‑quality fabrication projects to produce new industrial production equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Engineering/R&D team to conceptualize, develop, and build new production equipment that solves complex problems in manufacturing.
Interpret and apply engineering blueprints and other technical documents to ensure accurate machining and fabrication of parts/assemblies.
Oversee and participate in the hands‑on assembly of prototypes as well as production equipment.
Utilize fabrication equipment, such as welders, grinders, and saws, to assist in producing custom metal parts and assemblies.
Inspect completed parts using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure they meet required tolerances and quality standards.
Collaborate with engineers and other team members to troubleshoot machining and fabrication issues and continuously improve processes.
Build custom fabrication projects by cutting, shaping, and assembling components according to project specifications.
Drive to learn new skills and practices to assist in building complex machinery.
Support efforts to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize productivity across the shop.
Skills & Qualifications
Excellent mechanical problem‑solving abilities. Ideal candidate must analyze problems from first principles and devise innovative solutions.
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; associate in Engineering Technology is an ideal asset, but not required.
A minimum of 3 years of hands‑on fabrication and welding experience.
Hands‑on experience in metal fabrication, including primary welding processes, cutting, and grinding.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and technical documents.
Excellent spatial visualization skills, understanding complex assemblies that require precise part fitment.
Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to ensure part/assembly accuracy.
Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
Ability to perform both independently and collaboratively in a team‑based environment.
Dedication to maintaining a safe work environment and producing high‑quality results.
Experience with induction heating, high heat applications, and materials is an asset.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and industrial chemicals.
