General Summary Under general supervision, the technician cleans, inspects, assembles, packages, disinfects, and sterilizes all surgical products used to support physicians and surgical teams in inpatient, outpatient, operating room, emergency room, delivery room, and satellite locations. They document and monitor all sterilization processes—including steam, ETOH, Sterrad, and high‑level disinfectants—ensuring all monitoring methods are compliant with standards. They satisfy the needs of various departments by properly meeting and anticipating the instrumentation needs for pending cases, assembling procedure‑specific case carts, and proactively coordinating case cart preparation according to each surgeon’s preference card. They receive, unpack, shelve supplies, and maintain par levels using rotation and sterile supply management principles.
Education/Experience Required
High School graduate or equivalent.
Completion of a medical terminology course preferred.
Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and hospital personnel.
Computer skills.
Completion of the 120‑day orientation, including department and hospital orientation and maintaining competence during the evaluation year.
Certifications/Licenses Required
Central Service Certification.
BCLS preferred.
