Position Summary Repairs and overhauls automobiles, trucks, tractor-trailers, tank trailers and other vehicles.
Essential Functions
Perform mechanical repairs on commercial (class 6, 7 & 8) trucks and trailers to include dry vans/lift gates and tankers
Perform routine and general repairs - with limited supervision/instructions, to include:
Tire review and replacement
Engine, drivetrain, brakes and suspension systems
Annual DOT inspections
Preventive maintenance/oil change and lube
Electrical troubleshooting and repairs
SCR/DPF systems
Laptop diagnoses utilizing various diagnostic software common to industry
AC systems
Trailer and lift gate repairs- dry van
Tanker components-pumps, valves, etc
Assist with ordering parts inventory and maintaining stock
Communicate daily with coworkers and Transportation Manager
Upkeep of shop equipment and general housekeeping
Adhere to company policies, standards and safety guidelines
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of shop equipment
Ability to Mig weld and use cutting torches
General knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
3 or more years working as a mechanic in a heavy truck/trailer environment
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Deadline and detail oriented
Work in a safe manner at all times
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to follow instructions
Possess computerized diagnostics skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Dependable, on-time, and posseses strong work ethic
Self starter who does need hand holding
