Summary Works as a senior carpenter at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, primarily performing high level work including cabinet making, trim carpentry, concrete work, and building construction. Performs other general maintenance work incidental to those duties, such as basic HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform all aspects of construction work such as carpentry, cabinet making, metal stud framing, ceiling and acoustical tile installation, sheet rock installation and finishing, and door/door jamb installations.
Compile lists of equipment, tools and supplies needed and calculate cost estimates, obtaining materials.
Provide direction and training to other employees.
Operate cars, vans, bucket trucks and related vehicles.
Repair and maintain building systems, such as plumbing and electrical equipment, as needed to keep systems in working order.
Perform repairs to carpet, security doors and gates, passenger seating, and overall appearance to the traveling public.
Inspect and repair building envelope such as roofs, windows, doors, and gutters.
Inspect assigned airport construction projects and coordinate work with contracted construction inspectors and tenants.
Be subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.
Supervisory Responsibilities None
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
High School diploma (or GED equivalent)
Three years of related experience
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Required Licenses or Certifications
None
Competencies
Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, safety practices and tools required to perform carpentry and related construction work.
Skills
Mastery of skills to use tools to perform carpentry and related construction work.
Skills to read and write sufficiently to complete related paperwork, and read schematic designs and blueprints.
Skills to calculate cost estimates and measure items.
Abilities
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, tenants and the public and represent the airport in a professional and positive manner.
Ability to provide direction and train other employees.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Complete computer based Work Orders and notes.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands The position requires about 70% of the time standing, bending, reaching, walking and driving. The rest includes a combination of sitting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, shoveling and carrying. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. About 5% of time can lift, pull or carry up to 100 lbs a short distance with another person. Works inside and outside; may involve exposure to machinery, dust, chemicals, fumes, solvents, moving objects/vehicles, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds and slippery or uneven surfaces. Uses a variety of electrical and hand tools.
