Responsibilities
The Sterile Processing Technician works under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Operations Specialist, or SPD Supervisor, must be able to work cooperatively with other members of the Surgical and Sterile Processing Team.
Demonstrates a sense of professionalism and ethical standards.
Able to complete tasks as assigned and use the appropriate resources and references available for processing instrumentation and equipment.
Using attained knowledge of sterilization processes, the Sterile Processing Technician will begin to learn to work independently in an ever-changing technical environment.
Demonstrates, through clinical practice, knowledge, and an understanding of sterilization process, from cleaning and decontamination through packaging, sterilization, and distribution of instrument tray for surgical case carts according to pick lists or surgeon’s preference cards.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
The Sterile Processing Technician may or may not be certified or possess completion status in the SPD Readiness Course.
Participates in all unit quality control activities.
Demonstrates an understanding of the relationship of their role to patient care.
Responsible for helping to maintain a safe environment for fellow team members as well as patients.
Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent.
Within First Year Of Employment
Successful completion of the SPD Readiness Course.
