Job Title Mill Operator
Job Overview The Mill Operator reports to a Lead Person or Processing Supervisor and is responsible for operating the mill room to process clay into finished products. They also support other processing activities including kilns, loaders, bulk loaders, lab work, and may substitute for the Processing Leader.
Responsibilities
Conduct all work in a safe, efficient manner, correcting and reporting safety issues, recognizing improvement opportunities, and completing near‑miss cards.
Complete pre‑shift safety and general inspections of the work area, documenting results on a standard form.
Generate necessary work orders and check completed maintenance work using the work‑order system.
Operate the milling and screening processes, modifying them to meet product specifications.
Monitor equipment operation by observing gauges, test data, or direct observation and make necessary adjustments.
Collect samples and perform quality assurance and operational parameter testing.
Set up equipment for different product runs and adjust milling equipment and screen changes.
Operate front‑end loader and skid steer, and assist in maintaining all equipment in the processing area.
Troubleshoot and perform daily routine maintenance of equipment, including basic repairs.
Perform conveyor safety and maintenance, and execute lock‑out procedures, including knowledge of alarm systems and troubleshooting mechanical problems in the mill and dryer areas.
Keep work areas clean and free of clutter.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education HS Diploma or equivalent required.
Skills & Abilities
Experience with a large ERP system is preferred.
Ability to read, comprehend, and act on SOPs, equipment drawings, PWI, and similar documents.
Basic mechanical skills.
Visual monitoring of electronic equipment, cameras, and control panels to interpret data and take appropriate actions.
Read and comprehend product specifications.
Understand process controls and safety requirements.
Good verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with tools and data entry into computer databases.
Decision‑making capability within responsibilities.
Physical requirements: stand for entire shift, lift 50 lbs frequently, bend, reach, twist, stoop, walk and climb stairs and ladders frequently, climb ladders up to 100 ft, use appropriate PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, dust mask, protective coveralls).
Clear radio, telephone, and in–person communication.
