The Wyoming Life Resource Center is seeking a motivated individual desiring to fulfill their passion to serve others by providing and supervising recreational/leisure activities for our residents.
The Wyoming Life Resource Center utilizes the Green House model of care, which is built upon the values of a meaningful life for our residents, empowered staff, and a real home environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
Supervise, develop and implement recreational/leisure activities for individuals with various abilities to meet their physical, cognitive, and sensory needs. Provide residents with campus and community-based recreation/leisure activities, including occasional overnight activities. Provide direct supervision to department staff, including scheduling, training, timekeeping, evaluating, and disciplinary actions, as needed. Provide care for residents with intellectual disabilities and acquired brain injuries. Create schedules that include daily, weekly, monthly, and annual recreation/leisure activities. Monitor participants during recreational activities to ensure safety. Organize and coach Special Olympics. Train staff in the areas of structured leisure and passenger assistance. Complete regular inventories of supplies and equipment. Prepare monthly progress reports, as well as daily therapy and recreational attendance documents. Conduct personalized therapeutic programs at the Aquatic Center and Greenhouse. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to applicants who have a bachelor's degree in recreation or in a specialty area such as art, dance, music, or physical education.
Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional recognized by an accrediting body.
Knowledge
Knowledge of recreational therapy practice, principles and procedures. Ability to design, implement and conduct recreational/leisure programs for clients with disabilities. Knowledge of intellectual disabilities and acquired brain injury, including residents with behavioral issues, seizures, self-injurious and pica behaviors. Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate in a positive, effective manner with residents, staff, families, guardians and the public. Ability to use a computer and applicable software applications. Good management skills, including team-building, problem-solving, leadership, conflict resolution, and mediation. Knowledge of recreational materials, tools, and equipment and their care and use. Knowledge of community resources available to the recreation program of the facility. Knowledge of emergencies and dangerous situations and how to physically respond to them. Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
Education
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)
Experience
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist
OR
Education & Experience Substitution
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Necessary Special Requirements
Physical Working Conditions
Must be able to safely move (twisting, bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities. Ability to monitor sounds, noises, location of residents, etc. to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns. Ability to work alone and/or with multiple residents.

FLSA: Non-exempt A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
