General Summary:
The
Director, Engineering
has responsibility for leading a team of engineers to support Design & Construction of Distribution Centers, Design and Execution of Material Handling Equipment (MHE), Automation and Equipment Solutions for both new builds and retrofit projects. The ideal candidate must have a proven history of engineering leadership, responsibility for large complex projects, planning, cost control, Engineering Standards/Labor Management Systems (LMS) and driving standardization and innovation across an organization.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be an influencer and capable of working effectively with senior leaders across multiple teams (IT, Transportation, Allocations, Operations, etc). You need to be a proven team leader, engineering leader, diligent project manager, communicator, influencer, and problem solver. You will manage large, complex projects and initiatives, deal with ambiguity, and be responsible for embracing Dollar Tree/Family Dollar’s store-centric commitment to customers, customer service, and sales.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage a team of Industrial and Process Engineers as well as Project Managers
Manage Design and Construction Efforts of New DCs with General Contracting Partners
Design material handling, automation, and equipment solutions for New and Existing DCs
Drive standardization in DCs Operations, Engineered Labor Standards, and Labor Management Systems
Manage and improve facility and field engineering processes utilizing lean methodologies
Manage large, complex engineering initiatives across the two-banner network
Ensure customer satisfaction by following through with requests and ensuring needs are met as accurately and immediately as possible
Manage large projects, often with ambiguity; collaborate with Operations, IT, Allocations, Finance, HR, and external partners to ensure project completion (on time and within budget)
Drive innovations across the Engineering Organization
Approximately 30%-40% travel depending on business needs
Position Requirements:
Office work environment, 40+ work hours per week
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university with a background in Industrial Engineering. Masters Degree and MOST certification preferred
Experience:
Minimum 10-12 years of experience in Supply Chain Engineering. Knowledge/experience with WMS, Labor Management Systems, voice and order picking systems. Knowledge/experience of DC conceptual design and Construction. Detailed knowledge/experience designing and implementing MHE Systems and Controls. Understanding of capacity and DC Flow of product through various operations.
Job Related Skills:
Strong supervision and project management skills, strong presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Computer Skills:
Auto-CAD, MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint. Data Base proficiency preferred.
