The Greensboro Sports Foundation (GSF) is seeking an experienced sports tourism professional to serve as

Vice President of Operations & Events . This senior leadership role is responsible for the planning, execution, and operational success of major national and international sporting events while strengthening Greensboro’s position as a leading

sports event destination . In 2024, Sports Business Journal ranked Greensboro #2 for attracting and hosting events among cities without a "Big Five" (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS) team. Position Summary

The Vice President of Operations & Events provides strategic and operational leadership for all events supported by GSF. The position serves as the primary GSF lead for several marquee events, including the

2027 & 2029 Men’s ACC Basketball Tournaments ,

2029 World University Games , and

2029 AAU Junior Olympics . The role also oversees staff, volunteers, interns, event procurement, industry relationships, and sports tourism funding. Primary Responsibilities

Serve as GSF’s

lead event executive

for major national and international sporting events Establish and lead

Local Organizing Committees (LOCs)

for assigned events Oversee operational planning, logistics, staffing, volunteer coordination, and post-event reporting Supervise the Event & Volunteer Coordinator and oversee recruitment and management of volunteers Manage and expand the GSF Internship Program in partnership with regional colleges and universities Represent GSF with

National Governing Bodies (NGBs), rights holders, and event owners Attend and represent GSF at

Sports ETA ,

TEAMS , and other industry conferences Identify and pursue

revenue-generating event opportunities

aligned with GSF’s mission Collaborate with the

Greensboro Area Convention & Visitors Bureau

on youth and amateur sports recruitment Manage sports tourism grant applications, compliance, and reporting through the NC Department of Commerce Serve as liaison to the

NC Sports Commission Association ,

NC Department of Commerce , and

NC Department of Tourism Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Sport Management, Business, or related field preferred 7–10 years of progressive experience in sports event management, sports tourism, or destination marketing Demonstrated success managing large-scale sporting events and multiple stakeholders Experience working with NGBs, rights holders, CVBs, or sports commissions preferred Proven leadership managing staff, volunteers, and interns Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as required by event schedules
