Responsibilities
The Nursing Assistant assists in patient care throughout nursing areas, providing direct and non-direct care under the supervision of licensed personnel.
Safely transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services, and documents services rendered.
Functions as an observer on patient care units requiring constant observation to ensure patient safety.
Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
Observes, obtains, and reports patient data/status to assigned RN.
Responds to changes in acuity and emergent situations as directed by nursing staff.
Maintains current knowledge and certifications, including BLS.
Precepts new employees and accepts/responds appropriately to feedback for change.
Promotes a positive workplace through professional relationships with all disciplines.
Participates in safety/quality initiatives, such as patient identification, hand hygiene, universal precautions, and safety device use.
Conducts patient safety rounds employing SBAR and communicates identified risks.
Utilizes proper body mechanics and patient lift equipment.
Operates required software applications and remains functional during downtime.
Complies with legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.
Safeguards patient information privacy and security per SSH’s policies.
Collaborates with patients and families to respect values, preferences, and needs.
Considers the individual needs of diverse populations, utilizing resources such as interpreter services.
Qualifications & Requirements
High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
Previous Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience preferred.
BLS certification (American Heart Association required).
Basic medical terminology knowledge.
Basic computer proficiency.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work 36 hours/week, 7p-7:30a, rotating weekends and holidays.
