Payroll & Accounting Contractor (Fractional)
A Fractional Payroll & Accounting Contractor will support BE Group’s mission by providing ongoing payroll and accounting services on a part‑time basis, working autonomously and remotely with occasional virtual meetings with the CEO or operations team.
This contract engagement is part-time and flexible, estimated at
10–12 hours per month
depending on monthly and quarterly cycles.
Scope of Services Payroll
Process biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule
Manage payroll adjustments and updates as needed
Maintain payroll records and ensure audit readiness
Reconcile payroll to QuickBooks Online (QBO) monthly
Ensure compliance with federal, Oregon, Multnomah County, and City of Portland payroll requirements
Quarterly & Annual Filings
Manage quarterly payroll filings and tax compliance
Submit IRS, Oregon, and City of Portland payments through required portals
Support annual filings as needed (W‑2, 1099s, etc.)
Other Accounting Tasks
Use monthly CFO prepared invoice forecast/actuals report to prepare monthly invoices for submission to the BE Group CFO
Support month‑end close, including transaction coding support
Provide additional accounting operations support as needed within scope
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
3–5+ years of payroll and accounting experience
Clear, prompt communication skills , with the ability to prioritize BE Group’s needs and respond in a timely manner
Proficiency with
QuickBooks Online
and
Gusto
payroll processing
Direct experience managing IRS, Portland, State of Oregon Secretary of State portal, and Multnomah County payroll taxes , including local withholding requirements
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll compliance
Solid bookkeeping fundamentals and the ability to reconcile accounts accurately
High attention to detail, accuracy, and financial integrity
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently
Experience with digital financial record keeping systems
Preferred Background
Experience with nonprofits or school‑based organizations
Familiarity with Oregon payroll regulations
Knowledge of grant‑funded accounting practices
Experience supporting small teams or fractional finance environments
Located in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area
