Position Overview The Box Office Associate provides front-line customer service for ticket sales and patron support at the Fair Oaks Performing Arts Center. This role is responsible for accurately processing ticket transactions, assisting patrons with event information, and supporting smooth front-of-house operations during performances and events.

Job Summary Under the supervision of the Arts & Entertainment Manager or Box Office Supervisor, the Box Office Associate handles ticket sales, will-call, and patron inquiries while maintaining accurate records and a welcoming customer experience. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a live event environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sell tickets in person, by phone, and online using the Center’s ticketing system

Manage will-call, complimentary tickets, exchanges, and refunds in accordance with policy

Provide accurate information regarding performances, pricing, seating, and venue policies

Process cash, credit card, and electronic transactions accurately

Balance cash drawer and complete basic sales and attendance reports

Assist patrons with accessibility needs and ADA accommodations

Coordinate with Front of House staff, ushers, and supervisors as needed

Respond to patron questions or concerns in a courteous and professional manner

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming box office and lobby area

Follow all District and Performing Arts Center policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of:

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Basic math and cash-handling skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced, public-facing environment

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Comfort with computers, ticketing software, and point-of-sale systems

Knowledge, Skill and Experience Knowledge of customer service principles, cash handling, and point-of-sale (POS) systems; box office experience is preferred. Experience supporting operations in a performing arts or live event setting, including ticket scanning, ushering, crowd management, and patron services. Familiarity with performance venue layouts, accessibility accommodations, and basic emergency procedures is preferred.

Minimum Education required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or six months of related customer service or event coordination experience. A background in theater, hospitality, or recreation is desirable.

Minimum Experience required: Experience in live event operations or customer service, preferably in a performing arts or entertainment venue. Supervisory or volunteer coordination experience is a plus.

Other requirements: All applicants must be fingerprinted and pass a pre-employment background check. Reliable transportation to and from work is required.

Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Licenses and Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver's license, proof of personal vehicle insurance, and a satisfactory driving record are required. At the option of the appointing authority, persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses, certifications, or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment.

Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and the Microsoft Office Suite of products and possess typing skills of at least 40-50 wpm. Knowledge of basic office equipment should include Internet and email, copy and fax machines, postage meter, telephone, and answering machine.

Exposed to dust, noise, machinery, moving objects and other vehicles. Performs simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation. May be exposed to constant vibration of equipment for prolonged periods. The position also requires near and far vision when inspecting and performing work activities, operating vehicles, tools, and equipment, and preparing paperwork and reports. Performs heavy physical labor, such as lifting (up to 30-50 pounds), carrying heavy objects, and using a shovel and other equipment to dig. Climbs ladder and works at heights. Exposure to fumes, dust, and air contaminants which may cause eye and skin irritation.

Work Environment Indoor and outdoor environment. Theater environment. Evening or variable hours. Typically works indoors in a theater or box office environment, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions such as sun, heat, or inclement weather when assisting with events or patron access. Work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules. May be required to work during special events, seasonal activities, or emergency situations, with varying hours and conditions as needed.
