35 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:00pm) Overview

Candidate will report directly to the Supervisor of the unit and perform a broad range of responsibilities related to bridge inspection, repair, and project management. Responsibilities

Conduct field visits to identify deficient structural conditions, perform structural analysis, prepare design plans, determine scope of work, create detailed sketches, and design repair protocols. Maintain an up-to-date record of outstanding repair requests; ensure timely repairs according to the urgency of the flag condition; routinely communicate with relevant DOT units and contractors to follow up on the status of repair requests and complete repairs as per NYS DOT Bridge Inspection Manual guidelines and the NYSDOT OSS Inventory and Inspection manual. Supervise and manage the coordination of repair request work with external units, agency divisions, and governmental entities; confirm repairs comply with required codes and standards such as the NYS Construction Specifications and Steel Construction Manual; review preliminary (capital) design drawings to ensure future maintainability. Undertake independent or group field visits in a city vehicle to NYSDOT and NYCDOT-owned bridges, sign structures, elevated structures, and over water; prepare responses to correspondence, make court appearances, provide affidavits and testify on behalf of the city; sign and seal engineering and other official documents. Direct the implementation of capital/expense-funded work orders; monitor inspection of structural flag repair contracts and related items; oversee the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, change orders, contract payments, and work orders; review contractor work schedules and cost estimates; ensure all record-keeping meets state and city requirements. Plan, guide, review the work of subordinate engineers and other staff; may be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends; perform other related duties as necessary. Qualifications

One year of full‑time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work on engineering, architectural, landscape architectural, or construction projects or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more, and either a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university in one of the listed fields and one year of project‑management experience. Four‑year high school diploma or equivalent and five years of experience as described above; or Four‑year high school diploma or equivalent plus any combination of college/university education and/or experience to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience; one year of experience credit will be given for each 30 semester credits of college/university education leading to a bachelor's degree, a Master’s degree, a Juris Doctor degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect. Experience primarily of a design nature is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements. In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project; or at least two additional years of experience in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least two years as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project. Preferred Skills

Four years of full‑time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; a master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college may be substituted for one year of civil engineering experience. To be appointed to a Civil Engineering position in Bridges, candidate must possess one year of civil engineering experience in bridge design, bridge construction, bridge maintenance, or bridge inspections. Strong background in AutoCAD, Acrobat and MS Office suite. Ability to drive a city‑owned vehicle; a Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the State of New York is required for certain assignments and must be maintained for the duration of appointment. Organized and capable of communicating professionally and effectively. Capable of composing formal letters and emails. 55a Program
