Job Description What You’ll Do:

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is currently seeking candidates for a Dairy Plant Environmental Health Specialist 1 position in the Dairy Division, headquartered in Allen, Auglaize, Shelby or Logan County. The duties for the Dairy Plant Environmental Health Specialist 1 position include but are not limited to:

As provided for in Chapter 917 of the Ohio Revised Code and rules adopted thereunder, conducts inspections of dairy facilities, dairy facility records and dairy facility reports

Conducts examinations for issuance of weigher, sampler, or tester licenses

Collects and transports samples for laboratory analysis

Initiates appropriate enforcement action (e.g., warning letter, license suspension and license revocation)

Explains dairy rules, laws, and program policies to dairy industry

Conducts field reviews of dairy equipment, devices and systems

Investigates complaints and offers solutions

Reviews plans for new or altered milking systems, dairy equipment and facilities

Performs miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned: prepares inspection reports and interoffice correspondence

Assists in conducting special studies

Attends staff meetings

Gives speeches and presentations to industry groups and other service and/or professional organizations

Collects data and information for consideration by Sanitarian Program Administrator that may result in rule changes and/or interpretation

Collects evidence and testifies in administrative hearings and court trials

This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. ODA bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. Qualifications Must acquire registration as an environmental health specialist in training or environmental health specialist prior to engaging in practice of environmental health, but not later than 90 days from date of employment. Candidates will be required to provide a college transcript for proof of eligibility for Environmental Health Specialist-In-Training and/or Registered Environmental Health Specialist. As a result, please attach copy of your transcript to your application for this position.

In addition to proceeding, must have below:

Completion of undergraduate core program in agriculture from an accredited college or university, with specialization in dairy science, animal science or food science

OR 24 months training or 24 months experience in management of dairy production or dairy processing operations

AND must be able to provide own transportation

Note: Pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code Rule 4736-8-01(C): Science courses approved by the board shall be in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, mathematics, or statistics and be applicable to the practice of environmental health science.

Supplemental Information Training And Development Required to Remain in The Classification After Employment:

Must possess registration to practice as an environmental health specialist issued by the Ohio Department of Health, in accordance with Chapter 3776 of Revised Code, within 3 years from date of appointment to class. License for registered Environmental Health Specialist must be renewed biennially in accordance with Chapter 3776.07 (B) of Revised Code.
