This position assists RN's, LPN's, PCT's and Physicians in the patient care process. The Unit Assistant assists the nursing staff in monitoring the heart rhythms of patients on telemetry. The ability to interpret dysrhythmias and respond quickly and appropriately in the notification of nursing staff is essential. Some record keeping and posting of rhythm strips may be required.**Education / Experience**:High School diploma or equivalent required. Prior training in EKG rhythm strip interpretation preferred.
Completion of EKG rhythm education course required. One year of clerical experience preferred. Previous Hospital experience preferred.**License / Certification**: None**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:
• Knowledge of body mechanics and basic safety, principles of physical care and comfort.
• Medical terminology training preferred.
• Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.**Working Conditions/Physical Requirements**:Position requires sitting for 20% of the workday and mobility 80% of the workday.
There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds.
There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.
Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels.
Much exposure to computer work. Must be able to demonstrate manual dexterity in use of keyboard.
Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks.
