The department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, probation/parole officers, and administrative divisions such as Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations, and the Post‑Release Supervision & Parole Commission.
Responsibilities
Conduct shift line‑ups, make shift assignments, and inspect personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Account for persons, funds, and ensure all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Management Preferences
Knowledge of facility operations.
Knowledge of prisons’ policy and procedures.
Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
This is a full‑time position working rotating shifts with state benefits.
Note to Current State Employees The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected, a new salary will be recalculated based on relevant education, experience, funding availability, and internal equity. A pay increase may result.
About Harnett Correctional Institution Located in Lillington, North Carolina, it houses up to 988 male offenders in a medium custody facility.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School or GED diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer.
Or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
