Overview

Driver (Construction) Walter Lawson Children's Home is a not-for-profit organization in Loves Park, Illinois providing compassionate care to residents with severe and profound intellectual disabilities through our residential nursing care program, adult day training program, and approved non-public school. This Transportation Driver role focuses on health, safety, and welfare of residents while transporting them to and from activities and/or appointments inside and outside of the community. Responsibilities Safely transports residents to and from outings, medical and/or various appointments outside of the facility in a timely manner while ensuring resident safety.

Communicate with the facility via radio/cellular phone to ensure residents are dropped off and picked up accurately.

Ensure the van always has sufficient fuel.

Report immediately any accident or incident involving the bus.

Assist in maintaining the bus in safe working condition, perform minor repairs as needed, and report needed repairs to the Executive Director. Maintain the bus in a neat and orderly manner.

Assist residents onto and off of the bus, utilizing ramps, wheelchair tie-downs, and other equipment safely. Report immediately any accident/injury a resident and/or employee may experience during transportation.

Assist in transportation training of other staff or volunteers.

Assist with various community activities as needed.

Comply with the facilities privacy practices/procedures and all state/federal privacy laws as outlined by HIPAA related to resident and employee records, including information accessed through company web-based systems and/or electronic medical records.

Demonstrate teamwork and prompt and regular attendance to ensure quality care and services for residents.

Comply with and adhere to the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the Bloodborne Pathogens Standards. PPE will be provided, used, and maintained.

Stand, sit, stoop, push, pull, lift up to 75 pounds or more, bend, climb, twist upper body, walk, run, carry, listen, talk, use a telephone, and be exposed to medical equipment and persons with risk of illness.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months experience transporting persons and/or training preferred. Meets state and federal requirements. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Good-standing and current Operator's License. Driver's License (Required). EOE
