Job Description – Maintenance Section Supervisor I or II (2503636) TxDOT is looking for a skilled Maintenance Section Supervisor I or II to lead the Fannin County fleet in the Paris District. The position is located in Bonham, Texas. This job opening is for one Maintenance Section Supervisor I or II depending on business need and applicant's qualifications and experience. Qualification and experience will determine the applicant's position and pay. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right to determine the level of position based on the applicant’s work experience, education, skill level and other factors.

Salary

Maintenance Section Supervisor I (B24): $65,104 – $106,634 yearly

Maintenance Section Supervisor II (B25): $69,572 – $114,099 yearly

Travel Yes, 5 % of the time.

Schedule Day shift: Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 3:30 PM (40 hrs).

Responsibilities Oversees a maintenance section and is responsible for providing a safe driving thoroughfare within a geographic area of the state through the maintenance of all roads, structures and rights‑of‑way. Supervises technical and clerical employees. Work requires responding to emergency notifications as needed, contact with governmental officials, private entities and the public, and establishes work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but handled at occurrence.

Drives a state vehicle and inspects road conditions, work‑in‑progress and work completed by crews and contractors

Plans, coordinates and implements emergency response to inclement weather, flooding, accidents and hazardous material spills affecting area roadways

Plans, schedules and coordinates work project needs to include personnel, equipment and materials with the Area Engineer and other district staff regularly

Prepares and monitors the budget

Prioritizes and assigns projects to the maintenance section assistant and crew chiefs; guides them in planning and scheduling personnel/materials/equipment necessary to complete work, ensuring projects follow established safety guidelines

Responsible for maintenance section office activities including human resources, public relations, facilities, inventory management and general office administrative matters

Responsible for overseeing operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

May train other employees

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High School Graduate or Equivalent in general high school studies

Experience:

Maintenance Section Supervisor I: 7 years roadway maintenance or construction‑related work

Maintenance Section Supervisor II: 8 years roadway maintenance or construction‑related work; 3 years supervisory/managerial experience (or project leader/lead worker experience may substitute)

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license

Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis

Additional Competencies for Maintenance Section Supervisor II

Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes

Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions

Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 or above 100 °F for more than one hour

Subject to noise, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation

Subject to air or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids

Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs

Balancing: walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling

Stooping: bending backward or forward by bending spine at waist

Kneeling: bending legs at knee to rest on knee(s)

Crouching: bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine

Reaching: extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction

Standing: prolonged periods of time

Lifting: raising objects from lower to higher position or horizontally to a different position

This job is physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical

Must pass a drug test prior to employment; this is a Safety Impact position subject to random drug testing. Medical marijuana is not a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result under 49 CFR Part 40

Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24‑hour basis to respond during emergency situations
